THE SHAKING
(Sung to the music of “The Cleansing Wave“ The Church Hymnal, No. 598)
In fifty-five the shepherd died,
And many went astray.
The shaking they could not abide,
The price they would not pay.
Chorus: The Lord will shake and sift us all,
O will ye stand or will ye fall?
Stand with the ROD whate’er the cost,
Lest thou be shaken out and lost.
In fifty-nine sly Laban lied,
The ROD they did betray:
The Judgment message they denied,
For they would not obey.
In sixty-two poor Rachel cried,
“We must dictate our way.”
This caused Davidians to divide,
For they would not obey.
In sixty-six true Leah sighed
O’er those who broke away
Because of idols of their pride:
They wait the Judgment day.
In sev’nty-two some rebels tried,
but failed to force their say
That Bashan then a school provide:
O’er this they lost the way.
In sev’nty-four some soothsayers taught
That Bashan is not now,
That Carmel is instead three parts:
Thus truth they disavow.
In sev’nty-five and sev’nty-six
The devil did inspire
A few others to deadly mix
The strange with holy fire.
In eighty-three an upstart cried
Right out of his head bowl:
“Gilead is now God’s sanctuary.
Thus spent is Bashan’s role.”
In eighty-four some bigots sought
The message to pervert
That Carmel is now any place
From which the ROD is taught.
The shaking comes, the shaking goes:
Ne’er troubling God’s select:
They’ll feed in Bashan ’till the end;
As they are God’s elect.
Chorus: The Lord will shake and sift us all,
O will ye stand or will ye fall?
Stand with the ROD whate’er the cost,
Lest thou be shaken out and lost.
