FOOLISH VIRGINS
(Sung to the music of “Father, We Come to Thee“ The Church Hymnal, No. 599)
Ten virgins, five are wise, The ROD opened their eyes.
At midnight they arise, to meet the Lord. Ten virgins, foolish five, did not care to revive. Too late they did arrive, to meet the Lord.
Chorus: Do you have extra oil, THE SHEPHERD’S ROD?
To it be true and loyal, The Voice of God.
The bridegroom comes! Behold! Are your lamps out and cold?
Go where the oil is sold, Foolish virgins. Too late they go to buy, They will not sigh and cry; Without the oil they die- Foolish virgins.
Chorus: Do you have extra oil, THE SHEPHERD’S ROD?
To it be true and loyal, The Voice of God.
“Lord, Lord, open the door!” Foolish virgins implore. “My ROD you do abhor, Foolish virgins. I know you not, depart! Truth is not in your heart,
It’s too late to impart, Foolish virgins.”
Chorus: Do you have extra oil, THE SHEPHERD’S ROD?
To it be true and loyal, The Voice of God.
